Only about an 8-minute drive from the farm, a narrow and winding alpine road leads to the vast area of the Lombachalp between Hohgant and Augstmatthorn.
As one of the largest and most impressive continuous moorland and cultural landscapes in Switzerland, it offers rare animal and plant species such as ibex, golden eagle, black grouse, marsh gentian, arnica, and cotton grass a place of refuge and habitat. During the alpine summer from May to September, it is also home to more than 1,000 head of cattle and their herders. This is where the typical Bernese alpine cheese matures, usually produced in a traditional way over an open fire and then carefully aged in rustic alpine storehouses.
Those who wish to experience this impressive high plateau all year round can conveniently travel by Bus Alpin. The connection between Habkern and the Lombachalp operates in both summer and winter – the journey itself is already an experience. Link to the timetable on busalpin.ch

The Lombachalp is also an ideal starting point for extended mountain hikes, ski tours, snowshoeing, biking tours, or nature observation. In addition, the Lombachalp car park marks the starting point of a 12-kilometre cross-country ski trail (classic and skating), embedded in a fairytale-like and tranquil winter landscape.
Beyond the peace and clarity along the ridge between Harder and Augstmatthorn, the gentle yet rugged beauty of the limestone fields at Innerbergli, Sieben Hengste, and Seefeld, visitors can also admire and experience the breathtaking panorama of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau during the diverse excursions from the picturesque summits of Suggiture, Gemmenalphorn, or Furggengütsch.
